Band 5: £29,970 to £36,483 a year pro rata  PERMANENT 

We are looking for innovative, motivated and passionate children's nurses who enjoy the challenges and excitement of a busy, acute general Paediatric Ward, Assessment Unit and staffing our new pilot Virtual Ward within your shift. Your remit would cover both our emergency care and elective care patients giving a wide variety of opportunities.

To provide a high standard of nursing care for infants, Children and Young People, within a family centered environment, in accordance with the ward philosophy.

To provide support for junior colleagues, students, Clinical Sisters and Ward Manager, adhering to national and trust guidelines.

To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to take charge of any nursing shift as required.

To co-ordinate and provide skilled nursing care (without direct supervision) to children and young people, in accordance with responsibilities under the NMC Code of Conduct.

To be competent to manage and implement the assessment, planning, delivery & evaluation of a high standard of evidence based care to a group of infants, children, young people & their families.

To deliver effective discharge planning of children, liaising with other professionals and agencies as required.

Promote family centered care and act as an advocate for children.

Maximise opportunities for health promotion and health education for patients and their families.

To provide nursing care to high dependency children during both the acute phase and when stabilised.

To provide support to students and perform Mentor role or attend Mentor and Assessing Course in line with NMC standards.

Provide escort in the transfer of children to other health care providers as required.

Provide telephone advice for parents requesting information & support.

To have excellent interpersonal skills and can communicate effectively with children of all ages and stages of development.

To organise own time and workload efficiently, on own initiative and as part of a team.

To be a role model to all staff and support all members of the ward team.

To accept responsibility for the provision of effective prevention and control within the Trust in liaison with the Trusts Infection Control Team.

To act as a role model in applying good infection control practice and ensures compliance with all infection control policies.


Professional

Co-ordinate and lead a team of nurses providing care during a clinical shift as required.

Deputise for Ward Manager and Clinical Sisters in their absence.

Participate in promotion and implementation of innovative practice withinthe ward environment.

To ensure attendance and compliance with all Mandatory Training as per trust policy.

Attend annual Personal Development Review (PDR) and complete a personal and professional development plan with agreed learning objectives.

Attend relevant internal and external training days.

Ensure Safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all time and attend training Child Protection Level 3.


Strategic and Service Responsibility

Promote effective working relationships with all departments.

Provide advice regarding management of children in other areas throughout the trust i.e. Accident and Emergency department.

Participate in shared care of children with other paediatric centres and community nursing team.


Governance
Evaluate current research findings and if appropriate implement into practice on the ward.

Promote quality of care delivery and participate in the audit process at ward and trust level.

Participate in the investigation of any complaints received as required.

Carry out and evaluate personal research projects.

Actively participate in Clinical Supervision.

Adhere to Trust and National Guidelines.
