An exciting opportunity has arisen for an 11 month secondment as an Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist within Neurosciences at King's College Hospital.

We are looking for an outstanding nurse with a passion for raising the profile of epilepsy nursing and developing services.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an 11 month secondment as an Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist within Neurosciences at King's College Hospital. This is to cover a period of Maternity Leave. Our nursing service supports with the management of epilepsy ; supporting patients in a tertiary setting with a wealth of expertise, working alongside Consultant Neurologists, Epileptologists and Consultant Neuro-surgeons.

You will join our Lead Epilepsy Nurse Specialist; a second established Band 7 CNS and a Health Care Assistant giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in areas such as epilepsy surgery, vagal nerve stimulation and medication management.

As the post holder you will

  • have a good knowledge of epilepsy and have a passion for learning
  • be passionate about high standards of care,
  • be a strong team player with excellent communication, negotiating and teaching skills.
  • contribute to the ongoing development of services for people with epilepsy and the training and development of colleagues on our wards and outpatient clinic.

In return you will receive support in this role by the existing epilepsy CNS team; Consultants; Senior Nursing team; Service Management and the care group triumvirate.

About us

  • To work as a specialist practitioner and effectively develop and deliver an expert nursing service within the specialist area.
  • To manage a caseload of patients/clients.
  • To act as the key worker for a case load of patients.
  • To provide evidence based care in line with current research and NICE guidelines.
  • To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
  • To establish clear lines of communication within the specialty team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients.
  • To provide a link across a range of health care providers and other agencies to co-ordinate care for people with epilepsy, liaising between primary, intermediate, community and secondary care providers as well as liaison with the voluntary sector, in order to develop services available for people with epilepsy.
  • To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
  • To link with healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of people in the community.
