To provide support to the occupational therapy team and assist registered therapy staff to provide an effective and efficient patient centred service.
The post holder will have a delegated caseload and will work within agreed treatment plans, protocols and policies without direct supervision, and alongside the multi-professional team.
There will be a strong focus on rehabilitating patients, including transfers from critical care,
so that they can be discharged home, or referred to other discharge destinations.
To understand the process of delegation of duties by a registered Occupational Therapist and the importance of maintaining competence in order to carry out delegated tasks.
The duties of the post will include working on the in-patients wards, therapy departments, and carrying out community visits as directed by registered occupational therapy staff.
1. To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients.
2. To accept patients referred by a registered occupational therapist, and carry as own patient case load and manage and prioritise own patient case load delegated by the qualified occupational therapist.
3. To treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required, and, ensuring the qualified occupational therapist is informed of any changes or problems.
4. To work unsupervised reporting back patient progress and informing the qualified occupational therapist of any problems.
5. To assist the qualified occupational therapist in the assessment and rehabilitation of patients by collecting relevant patient information, and by using a range of delegated therapy treatments.
6. To manage the rehabilitation of specific patients as delegated by the registered occupational therapist, working without direct supervision, and, being responsible for assessing patient progress and reporting back to the occupational therapist.
7. To treat patients individually or in a group in a variety of settings without the direct supervision or presence of an occupational therapist, e.g. on the ward, in the therapy department or patient's home.
