Scotland's Railway is part of this large family, and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. We have up to 50 freight services operating every day and we are steadily building capacity for this to grow. Brief Description
Provide professional health and safety advice and support, co-ordinate the relevant business activities and facilitate compliance with Network Rail's Health and Safety Management System and all relevant legal, industry and company standards.
About the role (External)
Here are some of the duties your role will include: -
• Providing functional support, guidance and professional expertise to internal and external stakeholders on all health and safety matters so as to deliver successful execution of the programme or works.
• Working directly with project teams and contractors, providing health and safety direction and driving the regional health and safety strategy.
• Leading and directing regular meetings with project teams and contractors to share updates, lessons learned, good practice and promote collaboration.
• Inspecting and monitoring health and safety performance by conducting independent and joint assurance activities across all projects within portfolio.
• Producing detailed site inspection reports which cover areas for improvement, compliance and good practice.
• Using data to determine practical and deliverable measures to improve health & safety performance.
• Leading, supporting and signing-off accident investigations, holding investigators to account in terms of timeliness and quality, and ensuring recommendations are implemented and lessons learned communicated.
• Managing the incident reporting system, logging events and uploading reports and supporting documentation in a timely manner.
• Monitoring the close call system and working with internal and external teams to resolve close calls raised.
• Providing the single point of contact for ORR, HSE and other health and safety organisations regarding day-to-day site health and safety.
What you will bring to the role: -
• NEBOSH Construction certificate
• NEBOSH Tech SP certificate
• Significant experience in the successful management of HSEA issues on major programmes of work in the construction and//or rail industries
• Project Safety Management course.
It's desirable if you have it to help give you context to the role: -
• Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.
• NEBOSH diploma, IEMA certificate,
• An experienced Health and Safety or Environment practitioner.
• Knowledge of Behavioural Change techniques.
• Knowledge of Network Rail's systems and processes.
• Working knowledge of rules, Regulations, and standards applicable to contractor safety.
