As Assistant Chaplain at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust (Dudley, DY1), you will support the Chaplaincy team to deliver person-centred spiritual, religious and pastoral care for patients, relatives and staff across all faiths and for those with non-religious or Humanist beliefs. This pre‑registration post offers hands‑on experience that can lead to application for full registration with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplains. Daily duties include responding to bedside visit requests, carrying out spiritual needs assessments using listening skills and validated tools, facilitating visits from local faith leaders, supporting bereaved families (including pregnancy loss), assisting with baby cremation services and hospital funerals, contributing to multi‑faith and secular events, and taking part in staff wellbeing work. The role is Band 4 (Agenda for Change) on a permanent contract, salary £27,485–£30,162 pro rata, with flexible working options including full‑time, part‑time or job‑share, and occasional on‑call duties; base is sRHH Pensnett Road, Dudley.

This post will suit someone with a formal qualification in theology, counselling, social/youth work, healthcare or related caring fields and prior experience in care or support organisations, plus practical involvement in faith/belief activities. Strong communication, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and an inclusive approach are essential; basic IT skills and readiness to learn are required. A Disclosure and Barring Service check is mandatory and skilled worker sponsorship applications will be considered.
