A Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW) supports registered healthcare professionals by performing delegated clinical, therapeutic, and non-clinical tasks for patients, using their

and knowledge to make decisions within their scope of practice.At Newton Abbot Hospital we have an opportunity for you to work in a post which provides the highest achievable standard of emergency care, following individual patient assessment of needs.Working effectively alongside Registered Nurses/Practitioners within the Department as required daily and to undertake supervision and where appropriate assist with the orientation of staff unfamiliar with the department.
Main duties of the job
Working clinically to ensure the safety and quality of the care given to your designated patients within the UTC, under the supervision of a registered nurse/practitionerUndertaking the following, but not restricted to, clinical tasks competently and efficiently:Cannulation and VenepunctureWound Care and basic wound closurePlastering of limbsPerforming ECGsPerforming Visual acuity testsCompetently taking and interpreting Vital signs on adults and childrenCompetently undertaking Adult and Paediatric AssessmentsAble to make appropriate referrals to Adult and Child Safeguarding teamsSupporting and working with colleagues during the shiftLiaising with the wider MDT to maintain safetyHelping to facilitate the development of the service as part of the wider teamTo participate in discussions and projects that will benefit the team, the patients and the department as a wholeWorking under guidance and in conjunction with the senior nursing team and the departmental MatronFollowing the Department's and Trust's Policies and Protocols to ensure the safety of the department
