Person specification Research Training Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Midwife/Allied Health Professional or relevant Professional Registration
- Research training, eg. GCP
- Knowledge of the Research Governance Framework and the International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice guidelines
- In-depth knowledge of data collection, data entry and analysis
- In-depth knowledge of research methodologies
- Ability to undertake research and support evidence based practice
- Good leadership skills and proven managerial ability
- Evidence of changing practice in a clinical setting
- Computer/IT literate
- Broad and recent clinical experience relevant to the post
- Extensive experience of clinical research in the NHS setting
- Proven record of meeting participant recruitment targets
- Experience of delivering commercial and academic research

An exciting opportunity has arisen to help shape and develop Torbay's Cancer research team. As a site we are now able to offer an exciting range of interventional studies across a diverse range of disease sites and we are looking for a highly driven individual to help ensure this growth continues while maintaining our excellent reputation.
The main purpose of the role is to have responsibility for overseeing and co-ordinating the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of a clinical research team. You will be an adaptable worker and familiar with the fields of qualitative and quantitative research and clinical trials.
If you have proven skills in a research and/or clinical management role, this could be the post for you. You will be expected to oversee a range of studies across Cancer research with the following objectives:
- Ensuring that the portfolio is balanced with commercial and non-commercial trials
- Ensuring that performance targets are met.
- Working with the wider clinical teams across the organisation, central R&D team, clinical research network staff and commercial partners to identify suitable studies to improve patient care and the health of our local population
- Facilitating the introduction of new business into our organisation to aid income generation
In addition, you will be responsible for line managing and developing a team of research staff, leading by example and empowering staff in their personal and professional development.
- Ensuring that the research portfolio is balanced with commercial and non-commercial trials
- Ensuring that performance targets are met: recruitment time to target, capacity and demand forecasting
- Working with the wider clinical teams across the organisation, central R&D team, clinical research network staff and commercial partners to identify suitable studies to improve patient care and the health of our local population
- Facilitating the introduction of new business into our organisation to aid income generation
- Responsible for line managing and developing a team of research staff
- Leading by example and empowering staff in their personal and professional development
- Acting as an expert resource for colleagues to support them in the delivery of safe and valid clinical research and effective care.
