The Patient Access Coordinator is essential to the smooth running of the department.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Haemostasis & Thrombosis Department as a Patient Access Coordinator. This vacancy is a substantive full time. (37.5 hours per week) Band 3 role. To ensure sufficient cover to the service, the working pattern will vary from 9:00-17:00, 08:45-16:45, 08:00-16:00 on a rota basis.

We are looking for enthusiastic and patient focused individuals, with good communication skills, an ability to work effectively both as part of a team as well as independently and able to work under pressure to join us in our service at St. Thomas Hospital.

The Patient Access Coordinator is essential to the smooth running of the department. The post holder will be required to work within an administrative team of 5 other members to provide a comprehensive and quality clerical service, while maintaining a high quality of support to the department.

The Patient Access Co-ordinator will liaise closely with the clinical team such as Consultants, Clinical Nurses, Pharmacists, Doctors and General Nurses and speciality management teams to ensure patients pathways are managed to ensure patients are seen and treated within the NHS national targets.

    • To act as the first point of call for all patient access queries to the Trust.
    • On receipt of all new referral letters ensure that the vetting process has been followed in line with departmental guidelines liaising with the Referral Management Centre as required.
    • Be responsible for the scheduling of outpatient and all associated appointments according to clinical urgency and length of wait in accordance with departmental procedures and Trust Policies.
    • Liaise with patients prior to their hospital visit to ensure that a mutually convenient date and time is agreed.
    • Ensure that patients are appropriately reminded of their appointments. This may include sending reminder letters or contacting patients by telephone, up to seven days before their visit to re-confirm attendance in line with departmental protocols.
    • Ensure that departmental standards are met for patients receiving notification or acknowledgement of their visit.
    • Provide a courteous and efficient point of contact for patients both face to face and over the telephone.
    • Ensure that each patient is treated as an individual and their individual needs are met (ie: appropriate support is in place for their appointment, such as interpreting support).

services, so patients will receive the right treatment at the right time, delivered within fewer visits and tailored to their need.
