Job summaryThe post holder will work as an integral member of the Early Pregnancy Multidisciplinary Team within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will act as a skilled autonomous practitioner undertaking clinical duties within the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.
The post holder will utilize skills of clinical expertise, leadership, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff. The post holder will provide a high quality, efficient service and demonstrate clinical expertise in Early Pregnancy. Assess,disgnoseand provide appropriate management, patient information and follow up, in line with local protocols and NICE guidelines.
They will work closely with the multidisciplinary team in the hospital and the community to ensure a co-ordinated quality service and will be actively involved in education, audit and research. The post holder will engage and lead discussions in multidisciplinary team meetings. They will be expected to provide a seven day service.
Main duties of the job - Work as an autonomous practitioner in the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic, and within Gynaecology
- To review urgent patients referred, to provide skilled assessment of women who present with pain and bleeding in early pregnancy, includinghistory taking, physical assessment and requesting, interpreting and acting on appropriate tests and investigations in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge in the early pregnancy setting relating to diagnosis of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy providing evidence based information to staff and patients.
- Use judgement skills as to when to discuss unusual or questionable cases/ scan findings with Consultant Gynaecologist
- Use skills and judgement in diagnostic reasoning and refer/escalate accordingly
- Adhere to principles of informed consent and be responsible for the informed consent for women undergoing medical and surgical management of miscarriage
- Provide clinical and care management support to ward / outpatient nurses and medical staff acting as an expert resource for complex cases
- To prescribe as a non-medical prescriber /work towards non-medical prescribing qualification and register with the NMC
- To undertake extended scope of Professional Practice roles including: vaginal and abdominal examination, venepuncture, cannulation
