Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Planned Medicine Act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within Rheumatology (Specialist Medicine care group). Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Rheumatology (Specialist Medicine care group) in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist. Participate regularly in outpatient clinics to deliver and promote high quality, cost-effective and patientfocused pharmaceutical care. Act as a pharmacist independent prescriber to optimise the care of patients within Rheumatology (Specialist Medicine care group). Ensure a high level of clinical pharmacy input to the care of patients within Rheumatology (Specialist Medicine care group). Providing interface and discharge liaison and support. Actively participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high quality, cost effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.

This is a new role which has been established to support the Rheumatology team based at Orpington Hospital. The post holder will work with the Principal Pharmacist for Planned Medicine and Rheumatology MDT to establish outpatient clinics and streamline processes for initiating and maintaining patients on biologics/ targeted-synthetic small molecules. Although previous experience of working in this setting and/or with Rheumatology patients is desirable, it is not essential as training will be provided during the induction period and on an ongoing basis.

The successful candidate will provide pharmacist-led clinics, lead a Virtual Biologics Clinic for patients initiating new therapies and ensure that Medicines Optimisation opportunities are realised. The use of advanced therapies such as biologics and JAK inhibitors are rapidly expanding, and this post will offer the opportunity to gain significant experience in service development to ensure that these therapies are prescribed in a safe and cost-effective manner. The post holder will play an active role in developing & monitoring treatment pathways with colleagues across South East London, offering an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing experiences.

The role is based within the Rheumatology department at Orpington Hospital, with the need to attend our Denmark Hill site.
