Job description
Based in Stoke-on-Trent (ST4), this permanent Band 3 Maintenance Assistant role with North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust offers a full-time 37.5 hour week and a salary of £24,937–£26,598. You will support the Estates Maintenance Team with planned and reactive maintenance to keep Trust buildings safe, secure and well maintained for patients, staff and visitors. Day-to-day duties include fire alarm and emergency lighting testing, legionella checks, plant-room and drainage inspections, minor repairs to building fabric, meter readings, assisting trades colleagues, light digging and manual handling, working at height when required, and keeping accurate electronic records. The role involves using hand and (when trained) power tools, travelling between sites in a Trust vehicle, following health, safety and infection-control procedures and holding a DBS check; NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds and practical building/mechanical/plumbing experience are desirable.
This position will suit people who enjoy hands-on, practical work that directly supports patient care and team wellbeing — especially women and carers who value a supportive, flexible workplace. The Trust emphasises staff wellbeing, flexible working, sustainability through its “Proud to be Green” campaign and an inclusive culture that welcomes applicants from under‑represented groups. You’ll work closely with colleagues in a small Estates team, contribute to toolbox talks and site audits, and have the chance to build skills on the job.
