Job Overview
We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and experienced medical secretary to provide a smooth, efficient and effective high quality secretarial and administrative support function to the Consultant Psychiatrist and other members of the medical team. To work collaboratively with administrative colleagues within the team to provide support to the wider clinical team within the Mental Health Directorate.
Main duties of the job
To work flexibly to provide an efficient, high quality secretarial, administrative and support service to the Consultant Psychiatrist and members of the medical team, including support to the wider clinical team as required.
To accurately carry out from audio/copy/shorthand the typing of service user related and general correspondence/reports using the appropriate software to agreed Health Board standards and within specified timescales.
To attend meetings and take minutes as required,and ensure that appropriate administrative follow-up action is taken as necessary. This may include a multi-disciplinary team and wider service meetings as necessary.
Works independently to defined policies and procedures and manages own workload.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE level including English
- Word Processing Qualification
- Medical Secretary Qualification
- Shorthand/ Speed Typing
- Med Secs/Audio Typing Experience
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals
- IT literate with a comprehensive knowledge and application of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access and Outlook
- Understanding of information/data capture systems ie data input, information retrieval etc
- Understanding of Learning Disabilities
- Working knowledge of WCCIS, CWS, Clinical Information System
- Good working knowledge of medical and pharmacological terminology
- Ability to develop and implement new/revise existing systems to improve working practices
