Job description
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic person to join our friendly Newborn Hearing Screening team at CHFT. If you have previous experience of working with the Public especially parents and babies, and you are computer confident then this could be the job for you.
The post is 30 hours per week including regular weekend and Bank Holiday working at an enhanced pay rate. You will be based primarily at Calderdale Hospital, but you may occasionally be asked to work at our other site or to support outpatient clinics. In return we provide a comprehensive induction programme including service specific training to complete an external competency assessment.
You will be required to undertake a level 3 Diploma for Health screeners to become a qualified Newborn Hearing Screener. This is a national qualification which non-professionally regulated staff working in the same screening services complete. The diploma involves a range of written, oral, practical assessments and must be completed within 12 months of enrolment.
Identify which babies require screening
Liaise effectively with parents, NHSP members and other health care professionals
Offer the automated otoacoustic emission (AOAE) or Automated auditory brain response
(AABR) screening test and gain informed verbal consent
Carry out the hearing screening of newborns and accurately record clinical and test data
Promote a professional, welcoming and caring environment endorsing a family friendly
approach to care
Maintain up to date knowledge of NHSP procedures and protocols relevant to the role of
NHSP screener
Always maintain the confidentiality of the babies and their families
Always ensure the safety and security of equipment and report any problems to the NHSP
local manager at the earliest opportunity.
Ensure babies and families retain their dignity, privacy and individuality at all times
Be aware of safeguarding issues and adhere to local procedures
Be prepared to undertake the Nation Newborn Hearing Screening Diploma.
Communicate and liaise with SCBU staff to identify any babies being discharged that need
hearing screening completing
Ensure all eligible babies are screened prior to discharge home.
Ensure appropriate and timely referral to Audiology of any babies that fail the screen or are
not eligible for screening.

excellent IT skills.
