Job description
As an Orthopaedic Practitioner based at University Hospitals Plymouth (Derriford, PL6), you will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering hands-on care across Trauma, Orthopaedics and Rheumatology outpatients, fracture clinics and wider trust sites. The role involves applying and removing plaster casts, strapping and splints, supporting limb positioning during procedures, undertaking wound care including removal of sutures and clips and pin-site care, and documenting treatments accurately. You will work under the direction of medical staff and the nurse-in-charge, often without direct supervision and sometimes across peripheral hospitals. Competency in ANTT, the British Casting Certificate and HCA Level 2 (or equivalent) are essential; DBS clearance is required and applications from those needing Skilled Worker sponsorship will be considered. Preference may be given to internal Trust staff and candidates with recent relevant experience as specified in the person specification.
This permanent, full-time post is band 4 (salary £27,485–£30,162) and offers clear routes for professional development, a supportive environment that values work–life balance, and consideration for flexible or less-than-full-time arrangements — benefits that will particularly appeal to women and carers seeking stability and development.
