As a Pathology Healthcare Science Assistant at Milton Keynes University Hospital you will be a key member of the Pathology Support Unit, providing essential pre-analytical management of blood, urine, faeces and other specimens to keep laboratory workflows running smoothly. Typical duties include reception and telephone handling, checking patient identification and attaching barcodes, registering and filing samples and request cards, preparing worksheets, monitoring incubators and refrigeration temperatures, managing deliveries and mail, and helping patients and clinical staff understand test requirements. The post supports a 24/7 service with shifts worked between 08:45 and 21:00 across seven days (up to 37.5 hours per week), including weekends and bank holidays; evening and weekend part-time patterns are available and all roles will be considered for flexible working. A Level 2 qualification (GCSE in Maths and/or Science), good communication and organisational skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and adherence to data protection are essential; the role is subject to a DBS check.
