Tapping House is a leading provider of palliative care services in Norfolk. We are an independent charity delivering innovative and specialist rehabilitative therapy, end of life care and bereavement services.
Rehabilitative Palliative Care integrates rehabilitation, enablement, self management and self-care into the holistic model of palliative care. The
specialist physiotherapy post has been developed to promote and embed
this patient-centred approach with patients attending Therapy and those who
receive end of life care at home.
The purpose is to support people to live
fully until they die.
The Tulip Centre will see people at all stages of their health journey, from
diagnosis where there can be uncertainty over prognosis, through to
deteriorating advanced disease. Most interventions will occur in the
department, but there is a recognised need to complement existing
community therapy services and the hospices inpatient unit, in providing
support, particularly with breathlessness and anxiety management. Both the
Hospice at Home service provides care and support for people recognised to
be in their final weeks of life. The physiotherapist will provide interventions
at home to support, as required, those people with difficult symptoms such
as breathlessness and distress, and in supporting functional difficulties.
Main duties of the job
You will be working within the Therapy team, consisting of 2 Occupational
Therapists, 1 Rehabilitation Assistant and a Complementary Therapist. You
will be directly responsible to the Therapy Lead, and will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will have line management
responsibilities for junior members of the Therapy department, as well as
responsibility for supervising students on placement and daily management
of volunteers.
You will be required to work independently and as part of the
multidisciplinary team applying clinical skills in physiotherapy including
assessment, treatment planning, intervention and evaluation, which includes
individual and group orientated approaches. This will be appropriate to the
patients needs and stage of illness.
You will contribute to the evaluation and continued development of the
therapies service, and will provide specialist advice and education on all
aspects of physiotherapy management and rehabilitation for patients,
relatives and health care professionals, both within the organisation and
occasionally to the wider community.
