Registered Nurse Plus - IPU Job details Posting date: 30 October 2025 Salary: £37,934 to £44,626 per year Additional salary information: £37934 - £44626 a year Hours: Full time Closing date: 18 November 2025 Location: Chelmsford, CM1 7FH Company: NHS Jobs Job type: Permanent Job reference: BApply for this job Summary As a Registered Nurse you will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing clinical care, navigation, coordination and support to hospice patients and their families Through holistic assessment provide information, advice, psychosocial and spiritual care to patients with palliative and end of life care needs, supporting their families and carers, liaising and referring on as necessary to appropriate health and social care professionals To work in partnership with those receiving care, helping them to access relevant health and social care, information and support when they need it. Support people to access, identify, appraise and interpretinformation, to enable them to determine their own future To maintain effective communication skills to deliverhighly emotive information clearly, sensitively and unambiguously with staff, patients, families and professionals byface-to-face, telephone and/or electronic means To work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) sharing the clinical caseload of patients/carers within the locality/in-patient unit for patients who havepalliative care needs to ensure efficient and timely care iscoordinated anddelivered To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team,seekingadvice from colleagues or/and clinicalleadershipteam when required, in order to make sound decisions around palliative and end of life care To support management in training and mentoring a multidisciplinary workforce from novice to expert to work as one team To support any streamlined locality/IPU processes and services by embedding quality improvement methodologyincluding clear outcome measures to produce efficient and highly performing community services To support the Hospice in building strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders and promote the good reputation of the Hospicee.g.local trusts, CCG,health and social care partners, businesses and voluntary organisations To support and guide Health Care Assistants, Healthcare Support Workers and volunteers in their daily practice To act as a mentor to new members of the team including newly qualified nurses and student nurses coordinating induction and support in practice. To demonstrate effective evidence based clinical practice to mentees, appraise their standards of current practice, identifying and then helping to address poor professional practice and achieve agreed standards To undertake investigations in relation to concerns or complaints relating to the service as assigned and to identify effective resolutions ensuring compliance with Hospice Policies. To promote health and safety within the IPU ensuring staff are aware of current guidance and safe practice. To lead on research and audit programmes as required by the CNS IPU lead or Core Team Manager, delegating tasks to other colleagues as appropriate. Promote the hospice values within the IPU and act as a role model to the nursing team and others. To lead a cluster group of staff ensuring effective communication channels are in place, all staff are engaged in hospice practice and part of the one team ethos. To work with the IPU ward Manager, Head of Inpatient care and other members of the organisation to lead on key aspects of the service improvement to achieve an effective and responsive service compliant with CQC requirements. Deputise for the IPU ward maanger as required, such as during short absences Assist with monitoring and auditing standards of care to ensure that excellent care is being provided. Assist in setting learning objectives and provide annual appraisals. Manage staff resources on a daily basis to ensure inpatient staffing levels are appropriate to meet the needs of the patients and organisation. To work with the IPU Ward Manager in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff, assisting with their induction when necessary. To lead the orientation, induction and completion of competencies for yourself and other members of the wider team as directed.
