Job description
Based at UK Health Security Agency’s Scientific Campus in Colindale, the Senior Scientist (Epidemiology) leads and delivers national surveillance and research on healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. You will design and run enhanced surveillance systems and analytical studies across priority areas such as surgical site infections, streptococcal disease, antimicrobial prescribing and bloodstream infections; manage data collection and validation; analyse and interpret complex or sensitive datasets; and develop automated routines and visualisations using tools such as R, Stata, SQL and GIS. The role includes outbreak and incident investigation, producing routine and ad hoc intelligence, writing scientific reports and peer‑reviewed papers, contributing to audit, governance and quality work, and supporting the professional development and training of colleagues across the Division and with NHS partners.
This permanent post is ideal for an experienced epidemiologist or public health scientist (MSc or equivalent, and Field Epidemiology Training or comparable experience) with proven statistical and data‑management skills and a strong understanding of information governance. Salary is £46,310–£52,113 pa (pro rata) with flexible working options including part‑time, job‑share and hybrid working (minimum 60% on site), making it a practical choice for women and carers looking to balance meaningful public‑health work with other responsibilities. The role requires standard security and DBS checks; sponsorship can be considered.
