Make a real difference to how millions access care by designing, building and operating national NHS systems that underpin patient records and GP registration. As a Senior Systems Engineer in NHS England’s Demographics team (Products and Platforms) you’ll take technical ownership across application, environment, infrastructure, networks and pipelines for services such as the Personal Demographics Service (PDS) — the national master database of over 80 million records — and GP Registration Services used via the NHS App and nhs.uk. This full‑stack role suits experienced engineers with infrastructure and application development skills, practical knowledge of AWS, Terraform and Python, and proven experience across CI/CD, testing, monitoring and alerting; you’ll work to quality‑focussed engineering principles, collaborate peer‑to‑peer and coach colleagues while contributing to engineering maturity.

This fixed‑term (10 months) Band 8a post pays £62,929–£70,830 pa (including a 13% RRP), offers flexible working and job‑share options, and operates nationally (LS1 4PL) with a shared on‑call rota to support a 24/7 service. It’s ideal for carers and women seeking a purposeful tech role that balances impact, development and flexibility — you’ll join a multi‑disciplinary, supportive environment where coaching, career growth and meaningful outcomes for patients are central. DBS checks apply; NHS secondments are possible and, if successful, we may initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) for current NHS staff; skilled‑worker sponsorship will be considered.
