Job description
To be accountable for the assessment of care needs, the development of plans of care and evaluation of programs of care without supervision. Participate in the teaching and supervising of Nursing, ODP and non-nursing staff.
The post holder will be innovative in maintaining an environment that is conductive to the delivery and maintenance of a high standard of care. They should establish good communication and productive relationships with patients, visitors and staff.
To be responsible and accountable for the management of patients within the theatre environment and act as team leader. The postholder will act as person in charge in the absence of band 7 and follow the correct process of escalation when needed.
They will participate in a range of shift patterns over a 24 hour a day, 7 day period.
To be dual skilled in the aspects of theatre practice. To be expected to become tri-skilled within 12 months of appointment.
To be able to deliver clinical expertise in at least 2 aspects of theatre practice with knowledge that exceeds that of a band 5 practitioner. The post holder should have skills that are of the highest standards and be able to handle clinical emergencies without direct supervision.
The post holder should be responsible for maintaining accurate and legible theatre records that will stand up to scrutiny. They should follow the trust guidelines, and the standards set out by their governing body.
To take the lead role in the designated theatre they are assigned to. Lease with other departments and the theatre coordinator with any arising issues.
To act as the surgical first assistant if the practitioner has the accredited qualification.
To act as a mentor to junior members of staff and visiting students.
To participate in duties that are within their scope of practice when asked by the theatre coordinator or manager.
