Make a real difference to patient care as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester (DT1 2JY). In this Band 6, permanent role you’ll deliver accurate, timely diagnostic microbiology across bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology and serology, support urgent results and provide expert advice to clinicians. You’ll rotate through all lab areas, update SOPs and risk assessments, help shape a seven‑day, on‑call service and contribute to the emerging One Dorset Pathology vision — all within a friendly, committed team of around 25 staff that champions fairness, inclusion and flexible working. Salary: £38,682–£46,580 (Agenda for Change).
This opportunity suits an HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist with an IBMS‑accredited BSc (or equivalent) and IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Medical Microbiology — or a Band 5 state‑registered scientist actively completing their specialist portfolio. You’ll bring recent post‑registration microbiology experience, strong quality and accreditation awareness (UKAS), good manual dexterity and a willingness to teach and support the out‑of‑hours rota. Dorset County Hospital values development, CPD and a culture that supports women and carers; sponsorship and DBS checks are considered where needed.
