Job description
Cygnet Health Care is recruiting a Support Worker for its new Deaf community step-down service in Blackburn (BB2). This full-time, permanent role is 42 hours per week on a mixed shift rota (typically 3–4 twelve-hour shifts) supporting d/Deaf men with mental health needs at Vincent Court, a five‑bed community rehabilitation setting linked to the multidisciplinary team at Cygnet Bury Dunes. The job centres on delivering hands‑on physical and emotional support, assisting with medical and welfare needs, safeguarding, and keeping a safe, homely environment while actively empowering service users to access the same recovery opportunities as their hearing peers. Fluency in British Sign Language (native BSL) or Signature Level 2 is required (or you must be willing to gain the qualification), an enhanced DBS check is necessary, and the rate of pay is £13.85 per hour.
This opportunity will suit practical, compassionate carers — including women looking for a meaningful, team‑focused role or those with personal experience of Deaf communities. Cygnet offers structured learning through apprenticeships, flexible working with overtime options, regular coaching and appraisal, expert supervision and peer support, plus employee discounts and a Cycle to Work scheme to support life in and out of work. The service is due to open in the coming months and training can be provided for Signature Level 2 where appropriate.
