Job Summary
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to recruit a Sustainability Coordinator to join its Environment Team. The Sustainability Co-ordinator will help the Environment Team implement a Trust wide approach to Net Zero and sustainability issues, through implementation of the LTHT Green Plan. They will assist in the management of energy, water, waste and carbon emissions throughout the Trust estate. This efficient management will lead to reduced usage/production, cost savings and an improved patient experience. This is a post suitable for an individual who wishes to develop and extend specialised skills and knowledge in the field of environmental management/sustainability within a large NHS provider Trust.
The role will include development and delivery of sustainability projects and staff engagement programmes, supporting sustainability communications both internally and externally, and supporting a portfolio of projects that support the Green Plan.
The Sustainability Coordinator will report to the Environment Manager but will also work flexibly and provide ongoing support to the wider team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, team player, who is proactive, resilient and driven to succeed, with a real commitment to work as part of the team. This is a trust wide position, predominately based in the Environment Hub at St James University Hospital in Leeds.

The Sustainability Co-ordinator will help the Environment Team implement a Trust wide approach to Net Zero and sustainability issues, through implementation of the LTHT Green Plan.
To assist the Environment Team in the implementation of policies and strategies that will achieve national, local and trust wide Net Zero and sustainability targets including the elements of Carbon Footprint, Energy, Water, Waste, Travel and Transport, Procurement and Green Space and Biodiversity.
Provide on-going support to the Environment Team to ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice and sector guidance.
Liaising with staff and suppliers to collate, analyse and interpret data, assisting the Environment Team Department managers to make recommendations to improve the sustainability of the Trusts service provision.
Provide support to the Environment Team with the development of schemes/bids/business cases for obtaining local and central funding.
Support with delivery of projects relating to Net Zero and sustainability.
Support the Environment Team to deliver engagement and communication initiatives.
Champion the Net Zero and sustainability agenda, driving forward the Trusts green credentials.

The Environmental Team is part of the Specialist Services division within the EFM Directorate and contains a number of sustainability professionals who have direct or indirect reporting lines to the Associate Director Estates Compliance & Risk, who has overall responsibility for improving the energy, environmental and sustainability performance of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This includes service delivery of the Green Plan, Waste Management Policy, Travel Plan, Energy/ Water management & Estates Decarbonisation Plans. The Sustainability Co-ordinator will report to the Environment Manager (Sustainability & Waste).
The Sustainability Co-ordinator will help the Environment Team implement a Trust wide approach to Net Zero and sustainability issues, through implementation of the LTHT Green Plan.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Assist the Environment Team in ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, health & safety, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs),
Codes of Practice etc.
Contribute to and support the maintenance of systems for collation, interpretation and analysis of Net Zero and sustainability data. Meeting internal and external reporting requirements and deadlines.
Carry out site-based audits to assess performance in line with Internal & external procedures, identifying corrective actions and reviewing and monitoring and supporting the close out of corrective actions.
To carry out the duties placed on employees by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all statutory duties appertaining to their
sphere of work.
To support the delivery of the Environment Teams training portfolio and participate in internal and external events to share best practice.
