We have an exciting opportunity for a Therapy Technical Instructor to join our team within the directorate of Mental Health.
The role of the Therapy Technical Instructor is to support qualified Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff to provide skilled assessment and treatment of individuals admitted to our older persons mental health wards. The majority of patients will have a diagnosis of dementia, but there are times when the ward admits older people with functional mental health difficulties, so adaptability is essential. Excellent communication skills are needed, as is the determination and commitment to build positive therapeutic relationships which facilitate engagement and build an understanding of individuals needs in order to support them to engage positively.

- To undertake initial screening assessments following written protocols and feeding results back to supervising therapists and ward multidisciplinary team (MDT)
- To undertake skilled and specialised support work involving clinical interventions requiring higher level technical skills to assess and support patients with complex conditions e.g. functional assessments, relaxation, anxiety management, following written protocols.
- To provide therapy support to patients who have a range of mental health conditions, to enable them to maintain, restore or create a balance between their abilities and the demands of their functional, cognitive, social and environmental challenges in the areas of self-care, mobility and function.
- To engage patients and their carers in therapeutic programmes of care and encourage them, in a compassionate manner, to support them in achieving identified goals and to maximise independence and well-being through a client- centred approach.
- To work unsupervised with individual or groups of patients, making alterations to treatment programmes according to protocols & reporting back patient progress and informing the OT/Physiotherapist/MDT of any relevant issues.
- To support the delivery of an efficient and effective service and thereby meet the varied needs of patients on the ward.
- To work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary MHSOP ward team and inpatient service.
