Hourly pay rate: £20 per hour - I am looking to recruit an enthusiastic and compassionate person to support my 17-year-old son who lives with the impact of trauma. My son can be shy but is well liked by those get to know him properly. He loves scooting and trainers, so enjoys browsing for those! He enjoys listening to music, ten pin bowling, playing pool/snooker or darts, he also loves time on his laptop and YouTube. He is an avid car enthusiast and is very knowledgeable on cars. - Have you had any trauma informed training and/or any experience of working in a trauma responsive way? - Can you support a young person who has speech and language and processing delay? - Are you able to encourage a young person who is resistant to try new opportunities whilst respecting their choices? If the answer to the above is yes, then you may be the person we are looking for. My 17-year-old son is gentle and kind. He is good fun and well-liked by those who get to know him. He loves scooting, cars and trainers! He can present as emotionally younger than his chronological age. He is physically able; the person we need must have skills in a trauma responsive approach and a gentle approach to encourage him to develop life skills and access the community safely. The person we need must be able to help him process interactions and learn how to protect himself from any social vulnerability. The role also needs to provide patient, calm and responsive care, delivering a sense of security and stability. The Support worker needs to be energetic and engaging and also respectful of his language and processing difficulties. My son may appear more closed down at times so needs attuned care to up regulate him and confidence that he can try new things. He finds it hard to discuss or acknowledge his feelings, although he can over time, within trusting relationships when he feels safe with people. Ideally you will be a driver with a car that can be used to get to places, but he will manage public transport if not. The post is based in Worthing, 24 hours pw @£20ph, happy to consider splitting those hours between 2 suitable candidates, and to consider termtime or West Sussex school holidays only, or throughout the year. Duties include: - Therapeutic support to support him to process his concerns and situations he needs help with. Candidate qualities: - Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality - Reliable with good timekeeping - Honest and cheerful - Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard - Able to enthuse and engage to enable my son to try new things. - Respectful of processing difficulties and able to support communication.
