Clinical nurse Specialist in Lower Limb Job details Posting date: 29 October 2025 Salary: £39,263.00 to £47,280.00 per year Additional salary information: £39263.00 - £47280.00 a year Hours: Full time Closing date: 12 November 2025 Location: Newport, NP20 4SZ Company: NHS Jobs Job type: Contract Job reference: H9040-25-1511 Apply for this job Summary CAJE 2025/0447 To be an integral part of and an excellent communicator in the multidisciplinary teams for management of the Lower limb Wounds/Lymphoedema and take a key role in the planning and delivery of patient care, during an episode of care.Managing Complexity making judgements involving highly complex facts or competing demands e.g Plan and organises provision of care for patients and clients.Improvement and MonitoringImplements policies and proposes changes to working practices or procedures in own workspace.Support change and innovation, including service development and developing a case for change.Contributes to the development and review of clinical guidelines and policies.To maintain Professional registration in line with NMC code and Revalidation.To hold or work towards a recognised specialist qualification in wound healing and/or chronic oedema management.To hold or be working towards a nursing degree.To actively participate in Continuing Professional Development in order to develop new skills and maintain and update existing skillsTo work within the NMC Code, Health Board, local and national Policies and Procedures and adhere to the patients rights.To act as a mentor/preceptor to students and junior staff.To contribute to meeting the learning needs of team members, sharing expertise and evaluating training undertaken.To actively participate in Personal Appraisal Development Review, (PADR). Provides and receives complex, sensitive information and highly confidential information concerning patients or clients requiring empathy, persuasion, and reassurance.Impart diagnosis to patients and relatives, disclosing highly complex and sensitive clinical information in a format which can be understood and overcoming any barriers to understanding e.g., across all ages, patients with dementia, learning difficulties and Mental Health conditions. Alternative means are, sought to enable effective care and management.Demonstrate the ability to manage patients with challenging behaviour including application of appropriate management strategies.Imparts unwelcome news, care of terminally ill/safeguarding issues e.g., child or older adult abuse.Deal with emotionally distressing situations i.e., confrontational or challenging behaviours.ClinicalTo work within codes of practice and professional guidelines.To maintain an up-to-date expert knowledge and skills in specialist wound and chronic oedema management. Assessment of patients and the use of advanced wound and chronic oedema management technologies.To take responsibility for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care packages for Leg ulcers and chronic oedema in patients with a variety of co-morbidities to undertake /complete training in Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI).To undertake/complete training in wound debridement techniques in order to promote wound healing, by the removal of infected material and dead tissue.To undertake/complete training in compression bandaging and therapy.Whilst ensuring best practice, local policy and NICE guidelines are followed and implemented. To develop programmes of care.To assess and provide management plans for patients with leg ulceration and chronic oedema.Finance and BudgetBe responsible for the equipment used and ensure the safe and appropriate use of equipment by others through teaching, training and supervision of practice.To effectively monitor and control the use of resources within the budgetary limits.Management, Leadership and/or TrainingTo provide leadership, clinical supervision and mentorship for junior staff and support workers.To act as a co-ordinator of care in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team.To be aware of budgetary implications when prescribing care.To ensure the promotion of the safety of patients, staff and carers within the environment of care.To record evidence and report incidents in accordance with Duty to Report regulations.To ensure that proper Consent is obtained prior to any intervention, including the taking of photographic images.To ensure concordance with the Mental Capacity Act.To be familiar and comply with Health Board Policies and Procedures.To participate in the formulation of guidelines and policies relating to lower limb management. To ensure that all local and national Guidelines and Policies relating to lower limb management are implemented and adhered to.To support the management in the introduction of changes in practice within the team.To attend and participate in ward/department/care meetings.Digital and InformationRequires the use of IT systems relevant to the area of practice.Accurately maintains contemporaneous patient/client documentation following all assessment and management in accordance with Professional and organisation Guidelines.Research and DevelopmentUndertake the formulation of frequent audits, research and evaluation strategies.Implement research-based recommendations to improve care and management of patients with lower limb wounds and chronic oedema.Participates and support in complex regional and national audits and research projects in conjunction with relevant Team.Support publishing formal findings of audits, case stories and research studies in reputable medical and nursing journals.
