Job description
Care for people recovering from stroke in a friendly, 30‑bed ward at Bishop Auckland General Hospital. As a Healthcare Assistant you will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse, providing hands‑on personal care (hygiene, mobility, nutrition, continence and comfort), assisting with admissions, taking and recording baseline and routine observations, and recognising and reporting changes in a patient’s condition. The role also involves supporting mealtimes, maintaining accurate food and fluid charts, carrying out ward‑relevant clinical tasks such as ECGs, phlebotomy and simple dressings, helping with transfers and discharges, keeping treatment areas stocked and tidy, and contributing to documentation and data entry. The unit is welcoming and supportive, with clinical supervision and opportunities to expand practical skills — an excellent fit for compassionate carers, particularly women looking for a stable NHS role where relationship‑based care and teamworking matter.
This is a permanent, full‑time Band 3 post paying £24,465 to £26,598 a year, based at County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in Bishop Auckland (DL14). Applicants should hold a relevant NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), GCSE equivalent in English and maths, and either hold the Care Certificate or be willing to complete it within six months; good communication, initiative, basic IT skills and the ability to work under pressure are essential. The post is subject to pre‑employment checks including a DBS check and applicants must be able to provide required certificates at interview. The Trust welcomes applications from disabled and BAME candidates and offers development through hands‑on clinical experience.
