Job description
Support adults through same‑day emergency care as a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant with County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust at University Hospital of North Durham (DH1). In the fast‑paced SDEC unit you will work alongside registered nurses to record routine observations, recognise and report changes in patients’ conditions, and carry out clinical skills such as phlebotomy, ECGs and simple dressings. The role includes helping with personal care, mobility, nutrition and fluid monitoring, accurate documentation, escorting and discharging patients, keeping treatment areas stocked and tidy, and taking part in clinical supervision. Role‑specific training and senior nursing support are provided to help you settle in and develop your skills.
This permanent, part‑time Band 3 post (salary £24,465–£26,598 pro rata) is suited to experienced carers or those with NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) and a willingness to gain the Care Certificate within six months; GCSE‑equivalent English and Maths and basic computer skills are required. You should be calm under pressure, organised, an effective communicator and comfortable working as part of a busy team. The Trust welcomes applications from disabled and BAME candidates and offers flexible working and opportunities for extra hours — a supportive environment that values mentoring and career development, particularly attractive to women looking for a people‑centred role that fits around life outside work.
