Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 3 Health CareAssistant to join our Medical Same Day Emergency Care team. SDEC is adepartment whereby patients with some medical concerns can be assessed,diagnosed and discharged safely in the same day. We require a committed andreliable health care assistant to support this service. The service is fastfaced, delivering high quality care to adult medical patients who havepresented to the hospital as an emergency.Your role will be to support the Registered Nurse providecare and you will be integral to the flow of patients through the department.In return we will provide any work specific training and you will be supportedby the senior nursing team within the department.As you will be expected to deal with staff, patients andrelatives on a daily basis as well as recording routine clinical observations,the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent communicationskill both written and verbal. You willpossess good organisational skills and be able to contribute to the developmentof flexible working arrangements within the team.You will have the opportunity to work additionalhours at times of service need.
Main duties of the job
Toprovide care to patients following instructions in the care plan, programme orpathway.Todemonstrate competence in the accurate recording of routine clinicalobservations.Torecognise abnormal recordings or signs of change in a patients condition andreport changes to a registerednurse.To assesspatients level of dependence in meeting personal care needs and giveappropriate assistance (includes hygiene, mobility, nutrition, elimination andcomfort).To assistpatients to eat and drink in a sensitive and supportive manner.Toaccurately record information on patient food charts and fluid balance charts,reporting concerns to a registered nurse.To carryout clinical skills relevant to the ward/department and patient group (egphlebotomy, ECG recording, simple dressings,cannulation).To assistclinical team with data entry, filing and maintaining accurate documentation ofcare.To assistin escorting, transferring and discharging patients, ensuring all property ispacked and the bed area is prepared for the next patient.To ensuretreatment rooms and ward areas are adequately stocked and tidy.Toparticipate in clinical supervision.
