Work at the heart of laboratory diagnostics in Manchester as a Healthcare Scientific Support Worker / Medical Laboratory Assistant, supporting Registered Biomedical Scientists to deliver accurate, clinically vital results. This full-time, permanent role (Job ref: K9919-25-0422) offers £25,651–£27,220 pa and is lab/office based at M13 9WL. You will follow defined Examination Procedures to perform manual and automated tests, prepare and process high‑risk specimens, carry out identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing using microscopes and automated equipment (Containment Level 3), generate worksheets and laboratory reports, and promptly escalate urgent or unusual results to medical, nursing or GP teams. The role also includes routine equipment maintenance, stock control, sending samples to external UKAS‑compliant reference labs, cleaning and decontamination, and contributing to departmental research and evaluations. Expect to work a rotational shift pattern, which may cover 24/7 service needs.
