Band 7: £48,270 to £54,931 a year per annum pro rata incl HCAS  PERMANENT 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Counsellor Specialist to join our small, established counselling team working for the Maternity and Neonatal Departments in an acute hospital setting.

We are looking for a highly experienced practitioner, who has both stamina and commitment to work in the fields of trauma, loss, and grief. The successful candidate will either be UCKP registered or BACP accredited. Training in EMDR would be desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

The Counselling Service provides a comprehensive service to inpatients, outpatients, relatives, and staff. It offers short to mid-term therapeutic intervention for individuals and couples.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality psychotherapy to individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties. This includes providing comprehensive specialist psychological assessments, using a variety of evidence-based tools and approaches to develop an in-depth understanding of clients' needs. The role involves delivering specialist therapy to clients presenting with complex and sensitive issues such as trauma, chronic or acute illness, bereavement, infertility, and multiple losses.

The post holder will work autonomously within professional and service guidelines, exercising clinical judgement to manage complex cases and formulate appropriate care plans. They will be expected to contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, offering specialist consultation and psychological insights to colleagues across health and social care teams. Strong communication and liaison skills are essential to ensure coordinated care and support for service users. In addition, the post holder will maintain accurate clinical records, engage in regular supervision, and contribute to service evaluation and development in line with clinical governance and best practice standards.
