Support Worker Job details Posting date: 31 October 2025 Salary: £22,932 per year Hours: Full time Closing date: 09 November 2025 Location: Telford, Shropshire Remote working: On-site only Company: British Red Cross Job type: Temporary Job reference: 12256 Apply for this job Summary Offer reassurance, comfort, and a listening ear to patients and relatives in the ED. • Provide emotional support, especially to those who are anxious, distressed, or experiencing bereavement. • Sit with patients who are alone, confused, or living with dementia, providing companionship and calm. • Fetch and distribute blankets, pillows, sick bowls, mobile phone chargers, and other essentials. • Provide food and drink to patients and relatives • Restock linen, PPE, tea trolleys, and other supplies as needed. • Help maintain a safe and orderly waiting room, engaging with disruptive or distressed patients and liaising with clinical staff to find quieter spaces. • Source equipment and supplies for NHS staff • Provide emotional and practical support to staff, helping to boost morale and reduce stress. • Signpost and refer patients to community services to support their wellbeing and independence, helping to prevent re-admission. • Liaise with relatives, NHS staff, and patients to ensure clear communication and coordinated support. • Check relatives’ rooms regularly, offering support and refreshments. • Provide bereavement support to families, including practical help and refreshments. • Maintain accurate records of support provided, following Red Cross and NHS policies.
