Job summary

  • The Emergency Department is looking for a highly motivated B6 RMN to provide high quality psychiatric nursing care and ongoing assessments to patients in the Emergency Department, in particular for those who attend frequently.
  • In particular to work alongside colleagues from other organisations (including South West London and St. George's Mental Health Trust, local authorities, charities and GPs).
  • The aim is to provide better quality care for people with mental health conditions, and to help them reduce their attendances to the Emergency Department.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care, utilising research findings as appropriate.
  • Working with colleagues and patients to design and provide well managed care for people who attend ED with a mental health condition.
  • Supporting the trust to achieve its aim of reducing attendances to the Emergency.Department by people with a mental health condition.
  • Providing education and training to nursing colleagues across the department in the safe and effective management of patients with mental health conditions.
  • Ensuring nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with St George's Healthcare policy taking appropriate actions in emergency situations.
  • Setting, monitoring and maintaining high standards of nursing care in conjunction with other members of the multi disciplinary team.
  • Maintaining personal contact with patients, relatives and carers being sensitive to their need for courtesy, dignity and privacy ensuring a friendly environment at all times.
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date hourly nursing documentation and ensuring confidentiality is respected
  • Storing, checking and administering medication in accordance with the NMC guidelines and the trust's Medicine Management Policy.
  • To promote equal opportunities for staff and patient's in accordance with St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust policies, to ensure that no person receives less favourable treatment than another.
