Step into a practical, paid apprenticeship as an Apprentice Healthcare Science Support Worker with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at James Cook University Hospital (Middlesbrough, TS4). Working in Central Specimen Reception you will receipt, enter and process clinical specimens — swabs, body fluids and blood — so clinicians can get timely results. This full‑time, fixed‑term (20 months) Band 2 post pays £24,465 and follows the Healthcare Science Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship standard. You will be released for study and supported to achieve a recognised qualification while gaining essential laboratory and administrative skills.
This role suits organised, compassionate carers and women returning to work who want hands‑on healthcare experience and clear progression. The department operates a 24/7 service but this post is mainly between 08:00 and 20:00 with occasional out‑of‑hours and potential cross‑site working across South Tees and North Tees sites.
