Support delivery of the CoSTED project and provide outreach for the Lewisham Stop Smoking Team from University Hospital Lewisham (SE13). This fixed-term, full-time Band 4 role (salary £27,485–£30,162 pa plus HCAS) involves engaging smokers who are waiting in the Emergency Department, offering evidence-based behavioural support to help them swap to vapes and other nicotine replacement therapies, and carrying out follow-up reviews by phone and face-to-face. You will manage vape stocks and equipment, keep accurate records in Quit Manager and iCare, triage referrals, liaise with community and inpatient tobacco-dependence teams, assist with promotion and awareness-raising, and support administrative tasks to keep the service running smoothly. The post requires NCSCT smoking cessation practitioner training, relevant healthcare or customer-facing experience, good IT skills, and an enhanced DBS check; please note sponsorship is not available for this post.

This role suits carers and women seeking a practical, hands-on NHS position that values transferable caring skills — you’ll work with autonomy under supportive supervision, across acute and community settings, and contribute to targeted interventions such as Lung Health Checks and local stop-smoking projects. Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust emphasises equality, diversity and development, offering a friendly culture and opportunities to build your public health and counselling experience.
