Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an OccupationalTherapy (OT) Assistant to join the Older Adult Mental Health In PatientTherapies Team at the Stonebow Unit in Hereford.The current post is to support the Occupational Therapiststo provide a well established OT service to Cantilupe Ward which provideassessment and treatment for Older Adults who have a diagnosis of Dementia.There is a strong emphasis on wellbeing and sensory preferences for ourpatients and as an OTA you will lead on a lot of these interventions undersupervision from OT.We have a strong team of therapists including OT, TherapyAssistants, Physiotherapy and Psychology and there will be the opportunity forassisting the wider team when required.Within the team, there is a strong emphasis on training,supervision and reflective practise with an expectation for clinicalexcellence. You will have a passion for working in mental health services,excellent communication and interaction skills and motivation to develop yourknowledge and skills.Please note the Trust will not routinelyprovide sponsorship to work for this role.In addition to meet Home Office

Main duties of the job
This is a varied role which includes engagingpatients with their Occupational Therapy (OT) intervention plan to supportwellbeing and function. Under the direction of the ward OT, the therapyassistant will be competent in planning and running therapy groups such art,reminiscence, sensory room engagement and exercise. They will support the OT toliaise with the community agencies, families and carers to gather information.Where appropriate, the therapy assistant will support the discharge processincluding accessing community facilities and facilitate some home visits forwhich a car and valid driving licence will be required. There is an expectationto independently take responsibility for departmental duties such asadministration, health and safety checks and monitor the use of resources toensure the smooth running of the service. There will be a requirement to ensurework is communicated effectively to the supervising Occupational Therapist andthe wider MDT and to complete accurate clinical records.
