Job summary Symphony is recruiting for a General Practice Assistant (GPA) for the South Somerset West Primary Care Network (PCN), which covers general practices in South Petherton, Martock, Stoke sub Hamdon, Crewkerne, Somerton and Ilchester.GPAs are part of the wider team in general practice and provide a supportive role, which includes administrative tasks combined with basic clinical duties.GPAs can help support General Practitioners (GPs) in their day-to-day management of patients, specifically to reduce the administrative burden, making best use of consultation time and helping those particularly vulnerable to isolation, who are regular attenders at the practice.
Main duties of the job Sortingall clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signpostingsome post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.Extractingall information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notesArrangingappointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patientsPreparingpatients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basicreadings in readiness for the GP appointment.Dippingurine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomyCompletingbasic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approveand sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etcExplainingtreatment procedures to patientsHelpingthe GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phoneto ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with theirconsultation(s)Supportthe GP with immunisations / wound care
