About the Role


Are you an experienced Medical Receptionist with strong knowledge of EMIS, Accurx, and Docman? Were excited to welcome a new team member to our friendly and supportive GP practice.






As a Medical Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a welcoming and professional service both face-to-face and over the phone. Youll play a key role in managing appointments, handling patient queries, and supporting the clinical team with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

Job responsibilities


We are a small, friendly GP practice in Birmingham, providing patient-centred care to our local community. This role is mainly for afternoon shifts, and applicants should be comfortable working independently, with an understanding of our lone working policy. Our close-knit team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff work together in a supportive environment, where your contribution will be valued.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatient-Facing Duties



  • Greet patients with a friendly and professional manner, both in person and over the phone




  • Deal with patient queries via phone, email, and face-to-face with empathy and confidentiality




  • Manage appointments using EMIS, including booking, amending, and cancellations




  • Call patients for reviews of long-term conditions and screening programmes




  • Act as a chaperone for a GP when required



Administrative Duties



  • Maintain accurate patient records using EMIS and Docman




  • Process new patient registrations and deductions




  • Handle referrals and support clinicians with correspondence




  • Produce prescriptions and reports as directed by clinicians




  • Support repeat prescription requests and NHS App / Accurx communications




  • Provide general administrative support to clinicians and the wider practice team




  • Assist with scanning, filing, and processing documents into patient records



Team & Practice Support



  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth day-to-day operations




  • Cover reception duties when other staff are absent




  • Participate in regular staff training sessions and keep all mandatory training up to date




  • Contribute to continuous improvement in patient services
