This permanent Consultant Psychiatrist post in Community Learning Disability is based at Monkwearmouth Hospital, Sunderland (SR5 1NB) with Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust. The 6 PA role offers senior clinical leadership within an established community learning disability mental health team, providing assessment and treatment for adults with learning disability referred with psychiatric, behavioural and epilepsy‑related behavioural needs. You will have overall responsibility for a local population of learning disability forensic patients and work across three pathways: Positive Behavioural Support (PBS), mental health and well‑being, and physical health. The post is fully multidisciplinary, with specialist community nurses (forensic, autism, primary care and behavioural), psychologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. There are clear links to epilepsy services at Sunderland Royal Infirmary, an opportunity for teaching, audit and SPA activity, and protected SPA time built into the job plan.

This role suits experienced psychiatrists on or eligible for the GMC Specialist Register in General Psychiatry who hold Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status. The Trust offers competitive consultant pay (£109,725–£145,478 pro rata), flexible and part‑time working, remote working where service needs allow, up to £8k relocation support, generous study leave, and strong health and wellbeing investment. Please note CNTW cannot sponsor GMC registration for this post and a DBS check and current UK professional registration are required.
