Job summary


This post is a fixed term post for 12 months to support the newly renovateddepartment ofNuclear Medicine and the imaging and DXA teams at Singleton Hospital, in Swansea.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our skilled and dedicated Nuclear Medicine team. Ideally, you will have a level 4 science qualification (HNC/NVQ) or equivalent experience or be a BSc student or graduate from a Science Degree.

The Nuclear Medicine Service based at Singleton Hospital comprises a purpose-built Radiopharmacy, an extensive Bone Densitometry (DXA) service, two dual-head SPECT gamma-cameras providing for a busy imaging service and a mobile PET/CT service. We provide radiopharmaceuticals and scientific support to five gamma cameras currently.

We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant Practitioner at Band 4 level on a part-time basis (4 days per week). The Healthcare Science Assistant Practitioner will be expected to provide technical support across the full range of Nuclear Medicine Services, but in particular to the imaging section.





Main duties of the job


Nuclear Medicine at Singleton is a friendly and progressive service. The Department is accredited by IPEM for training and has links to Swansea University through research and formal academic teaching. Continuing professional development of all staff is encouraged and supported. Full training will be provided to suitable candidates. Main duties of the post-holder will include:


Patient cannulation;


Patient catheterisation;


Preparing and escorting patients for scanning;


Data entry in clinical systems and databases;


Relaying important information to patients, family and other service users in adequate terms and standards that ensure cooperation and effective communication;


Dealing with complex and heavy machinery and equipment.
