Support patients and clinicians as a Control Room Assistant for the Sheffield GP Collaborative at Northern General Hospital (Sheffield, S5). You will manage incoming calls from patients, clinicians and NHS 111 in a confidential, efficient and compassionate way; process electronic referrals; complete clear patient demographics for triage clinicians; and help with health information enquiries. This permanent, part‑time role sits at Band 2 (£24,465 pa pro rata) and is central to providing urgent out‑of‑hours primary care, including face‑to‑face assessments and home visits for the housebound and those at end of life. The post requires working unsociable hours — overnight shifts, weekends and bank holidays — and includes a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

This role is well suited to organised, calm people with administrative or reception experience, and will particularly appeal to women returning to work or carers seeking meaningful, flexible NHS work. You’ll need GCSEs (including Maths and English) or equivalent, good computer skills (Office 365, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to work accurately under pressure; patient‑facing experience and a driving licence are desirable. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals values staff development and work–life balance, offers supportive policies and career opportunities, and welcomes applicants who need skilled worker sponsorship.
