Work as a Peer Support Worker at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, based at The Linden Centre, Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford (CM1). The role sits within the specialist six‑bed Rainbow Mother and Baby Unit, supporting women in late pregnancy and up to a year after birth. Your personal lived experience of perinatal mental health — whether you were an inpatient or supported by community services — is the essential qualification. You’ll use that experience to build therapeutic relationships, offer advocacy, deliver one‑to‑one and group support, help with care and recovery planning, support families and carers, and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to promote safety and positive outcomes for mothers and babies. The post is permanent, part‑time, Band 3 (£24,937–£26,598 pa) and subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check; applicants must have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).
This role is especially well suited to women and carers looking for meaningful, flexible work that values lived experience. The Trust offers training and development, NHS staff discounts, season ticket loans, salary sacrifice schemes (lease car, Cycle to Work), and the option to join the staff bank for extra shifts — all designed to fit around family life and other commitments. The unit is local to Chelmsford with accessible commuting options, and you’ll be working in a compassionate environment that genuinely empowers recovery.
