As Emergency Department Receptionist at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary you will be the first point of contact for patients and ambulance arrivals in the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre. This fixed‑term, six‑month post is Band 3 (salary £24,937–£26,598 pro rata) and accepts full‑ or part‑time applicants. You’ll work a varied rota that includes early, late and night shifts (for example 07:30–15:30, 08:00–20:00, 08:30–20:30, 15:30–23:30 and 21:30–07:30) and must be available for all those windows; rotas are published six weeks in advance and hours may ebb and flow week to week.
You’ll use warm hospitality, clear communication and solid admin skills to book and welcome self‑presenting patients, process ambulance arrivals and manage telephone enquiries—so reception or appointments experience and confident IT ability are important. This role suits caring, organised people, particularly women returning to work or balancing family responsibilities, who want to make a visible difference within a supportive NHS setting in Lancaster (LA1 4RP).
