Based at the Irwell Unit, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury (BL9 7TD), this full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist post sits within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) offering community-led care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems. Permanent, NHS consultant grade with a salary range of £109,725–£145,478, the role involves clinical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, contributing to service redesign and local development meetings, teaching and supervision of medical and nursing staff, and active involvement with service user and carer groups. You’ll join a supportive team of six full-time adult psychiatry consultants working to an Inpatient–Outpatient model with allocated junior doctor support, advanced practitioners and speciality doctor input, plus close links to research and teaching programmes.

Applicants should be on (or eligible for) the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of CCT in General Adult Psychiatry at interview, with higher psychiatric training, MBChB (or equivalent), Section 12(2) eligibility and Approved Clinician eligibility; MRCPsych, tribunal experience and prior supervisory roles are desirable. The post offers low-frequency on-call (1 in 30 with a day off after on-call), ample professional development, the possibility of negotiating extra PAs, and consideration for Skilled Worker sponsorship where needed; a DBS check and current UK professional registration are required.
