Take a senior clinical lead role as a 12‑month fixed‑term Locum Consultant in Critical Care Medicine across Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton) and Yeovil District Hospital. You will work in a purpose‑built 22‑bed Critical Care Unit at Musgrove Park and in Yeovil, joining a consultant group with excellent ICNARC outcomes and a strong CQC rating. This full‑time post involves managing complex ICU patients, leading consultant ward rounds, making admission and discharge decisions, and providing senior supervision to junior doctors and Advanced Critical Care Practitioners. There is a flexible job plan to reflect your interests — teaching, research, service development or contributing to the South West retrieval service (Retrieve) — with an OOH supplement and SPA time; salary banding is £109,725–£145,478 per year. The role is supported by robust governance, a multidisciplinary team and clear opportunities to shape intensive care provision across Somerset.

This post is aimed at experienced intensivists with full GMC registration, a CCT (or CESR) in Intensive Care Medicine (or within six months of CCT at interview) and a minimum of four years’ critical care experience (including at least two years in general critical care); experience stabilising children for transfer is required. The Trust welcomes applicants needing Skilled Worker sponsorship and promotes flexible working, NHS pension membership, generous annual leave, career development and staff discounts via Blue Light Card. The working environment is inclusive and family‑minded — ideal if you’re seeking senior clinical responsibility with adaptability for caring commitments.
