Make a real difference caring for patients on Ward 25 Medicine at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (Shrewsbury, SY3). The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is recruiting compassionate Healthcare Assistants (Medicine) for permanent full‑ and part‑time roles at Band 2 (Agenda for Change) with a salary of £24,465 pa. This role is not eligible for sponsorship. You will be supported with a comprehensive induction programme and work in a warm, learning‑focused environment that offers flexible hours, clear routes for career progression, apprenticeship opportunities and generous family‑friendly benefits — ideal for women carers seeking meaningful, steady work alongside life’s other commitments.

In the role you will support ward teams by monitoring patients and taking basic observations, serving and assisting with meals, and helping with personal care such as bathing, oral and hair care, nails and eye care. You will also provide continence support — encouraging continence, emptying catheter bags, helping patients to mobilise to the toilet, commode or use a bedpan, and maintaining hygiene after incontinence. Essential requirements include GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 3–1 (D–G) or Functional Skills Level 1 (or higher); a Level 2 care qualification is desirable or you can demonstrate a commitment to work towards it. A Disclosure and Barring Service check is required.
