Consultant Geriatrician – Acute Frailty at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (Ipswich Hospital, IP4 5PD). This permanent role (full-time, part-time or flexible working considered) offers a welcome bonus of £12,000 plus relocation support and a salary of £109,725–£145,478. You will lead consultant-led ward rounds for a virtual ward alongside a Staff Grade or SpR, take scheduled sessions in the Emergency Department as part of the FIT team assessing frailty at the front door, and provide specialist cover for the Frailty Assessment Base (FAB). The post is clinical and operational: daily online board rounds, clinical leadership of a progressive multidisciplinary team, working closely with community services (Dementia Intensive Support, REACT, social services and voluntary partners) and helping patients remain safe at home. The department is modern and innovative — preparing for Epic EPR in 2025 and actively developing community-facing services so your ideas and sub-specialist interests (onco-geriatrics, orthopaedic liaison, virtual ward work) can flourish within the timetable.

This role suits candidates on or nearing the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatrics (or within six months of CCT) with MRCP or equivalent, proven MDT and teaching experience, and a full driving licence. There is an optional general medicine on‑call slot (1 in 8 weekends; a 12‑hour EAU shift plus overnight availability) and local initiatives such as GLINT that move assessments into neighbourhood teams. ESNEFT supports staff with training and development, generous pension, unsocial hours pay where applicable, 27 days annual leave (pro rata), and a staff health and wellbeing programme — attractive features for carers and women seeking flexible, supportive roles that balance professional impact with life outside work.
