Ensure that a stimulating, welcoming and safe environment is maintained, the rights of day centre members are respected and that they are allowed to take appropriate risks promoting independence and freedom of choice & flexibility.
To provide support to the cook by preparing and cooking food for The Reed and external stakeholders, serving meals to external stakeholders on Fridays and other required days as necessary, and covering the cook's duties when they are off. Additionally, to offer a responsive, respectful, and reliable day care and support service to vulnerable older people within a day care setting, and to provide support, care, and activities to day centre members, involving family, carers, and other agencies to meet their changing needs.


Key Responsibilities


  • To deliver at all times a respectful, responsive, and reliable service to day centre members, their families, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure that a stimulating, welcoming and safe environment is maintained, the rights of day centre members are respected and that they are allowed to take appropriate risks promoting independence and freedom of choice & flexibility
  • To assist in the kitchen in the morning, assisting the cook to prepare vegetables, cooking, shopping, and any other duties required in the kitchen
  • Effectively communicate with day centre members, families and staff across the organization and partners
  • When not in kitchen or at external site serving meals, assist day centre staff supporting day centre member's, with personal care, giving advice, socially engaging with day centre members. Ensure residents are encouraged to reach their optimum level of independence and assist members who need support regularly, including activities, meals, washing, and toileting in accordance with their care and support plan
  • Liaise with Adult Social Care, day care and voluntary sector providers, health workers, voluntary organisations, and other professionals to support residents' needs
  • To report and record appropriate information concerning day centre members
  • To ensure that the confidentiality and dignity of all day centre members is respected
  • Provide a meal service role at an external site Monday- Friday as agreed with our external contract stipulations

Knowledge


  • Current good practice in care and the principles of dignity, privacy, independence, choice and fulfilment
  • Safeguarding vulnerable people
  • Health and Safety and legal requirements in a day care setting and a catering kitchen
  • Awareness of needs of older people and/or those with dementia, mental health, disability or learning difficulties and understanding needs (physical, social, cultural and emotional)



Experience


  • 2 years' work experience of care and support of older and/or vulnerable people, either in a paid or unpaid capacity



Qualifications


  • This role provides regulated activities under the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Therefore, post holders are required to undertake a regular DBS check to ensure anyone who presents a known risk is prevented from working with vulnerable people
  • Ability to undertake manual handling tasks
