Support Worker (Ref: LTES176) for Independent Lives in Eastbourne: a permanent, part‑time role (up to 25 hours pw) paying £12.21 per hour, caring for a 7‑year‑old autistic, non‑verbal boy. The post is on‑site and will include school drop‑off, mealtimes (dinner prepared by employer), bedtime routines, bathing and nappy changing, plus outings such as seafront walks, water play and trampoline time. Duties also cover personal grooming, eating and drinking support, moving and handling, dressing, bathroom assistance, light housekeeping, shopping, cooking, transport and helping with pets. A full driving licence and own vehicle are required. Successful applicants will be directly employed by the family, receive a written contract and holiday pay, and must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check. A non‑smoker is preferred or someone prepared to refrain from smoking during working hours.

This opportunity suits caring, patient people — especially women with experience of supporting children with additional needs — who are organised, reliable and creative in calming and engaging a child who cannot verbally communicate. You should be comfortable with pets, able to follow instructions yet work on your own initiative, fit enough for personal care and moving tasks, and able to read and speak English to a reasonable standard. An exemption for gender is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 (Part 1 Schedule 9), and Independent Lives is a proud member of the Disability Confident scheme, offering interviews to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria.
